Color Meanings
Colors play an integral role in how a potential client sees a brand. Logos, advertisements and websites all use the power of color as a subliminal message.
Here is a quick color meaning chart.
Red: Associated with energy, power, desire and love.
Yellow: Happy sunshine. Think joy, intellect and energy.
Orange: A mixture of energy red and happy yellow. Orange represents creativity, determination and stimulation.
Brown: Indicates nature, warmth and neutrality.
Blue: Most people's favorite. The color of the heaven, sky and sea. It symbolizes faith, truth and trust.
Green: Nature. It shows growth, harmony and fertility. Dark green is also associated with money.
Purple: Combines blue and red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, luxury, and wealth. Also good for mystery and magic.
White: Goodness and purity. The color of perfection.
Black: Power, elegance, formality and mystery. It can also show death and evil.
Why does McDonald’s uses yellow & red? The yellow is obvious. Eat and be happy. The red is a different factor. Studies have shown that red can actually raise blood pressure and cause feelings of hunger. Playing with both colors induces the viewer to feel hunger, yet associates the brand with fulfillment. I have noticed that they started using green highlights throughout their website, and that makes a lot of sense. I assume they are throwing in a hint of natural goodness. True or not, color messaging works.
Make sure your logo and branding give over the meaning you want to convey to your clients.
